Geospatial Intelligence Project: Jam Redesign

What if there was a do-over, for a geospatial intelligence analysis report? The most important report written in the 1950s was the analysis of what was going on at Site A1 at Tyuratam in 1956. This single report put a context around the Sputnik launches; defined where the Soviet Union was in its ICBM program; identified the launch and landing locations for Soviet missile testing and provided the infrastructure key that shaped US search collection strategies for thirty years. The design of the report combines text, imagery, line drawings, maps, and measurements.

Challenge: take the GMIC Jam Session of September 1958 and use the knowledge of analytic and geospatial methodologies, outline how would one report the discoveries of the report and what database one would design to track future developments at this facility. Work from the premise that Russia is going to restore Site A1 over the next one year on a crash program similar to what the USSR did in 1957.  Having received this intelligence, one is tasked with designing a way of reporting these changes that incorporates the digital advances that have happened since that time. Report is in the button link below

WebGIS Final Project: Curtis Bay Profile

Curtis Bay is a neighborhood located in south of Baltimore, surrounded by the following neighborhoods: Brooklyn, Cherry Hill, and Fairfield Area. Although it brings the advantages of living near the Inner Harbor and has the vibe of a small town USA, its reputation of air pollution and high rise in crimes overshadowed its true beauty.

The issue of food access is a topic that should be address urgently across the nation as we’re continuing to see the rise of food deserts contributed by many factors such as gentrification, displacement, environmental injustice, distribution of services, etc.

What is food desert? According to the Food Empowerment Project, it is “geographic areas where residents’ access to affordable, healthy food options (especially fresh fruits and vegetables) is restricted or nonexistent due to the absence of grocery stores within convenient traveling distance”
