I wanted to hone my skills with Adobe Illustrator so I thought this would be a good starter for me. One of the things I wanted to focus on the most after I looked at this artwork was making the hole within the handle. The process was a hurdle to overcome but I ended up accomplishing what I envisioned for this project.

Morning Coffee

This is my artwork inspired by the original. The experience of creating this artwork was difficult yet refreshing and a good learning experience with Adobe Illustrator. One of my biggest challenge in the process was creating the hole within the handle that’s part of the shadow, in order to give that simple and realistic look. I wasn’t sure if Cropping or Clipping Mask would be necessary to create that hole, so I did a test in another template to see if the Pathfinder method would work for this poster.

The Pathfinder tool combine objects into new shapes so I thought that is the right tool to make the hole. On top of the long shadow, I made another a rounded rectangle aligned near the handle. I selected both of the shadow and the small rectangle and used Minus-Front from Pathfinder, which subtract the shape from the shape area. Afterwards, the process of finalizing this work went smoothly without a problem.

I enjoyed this project, even though it was a hard process for me to get used to. Doing this project made me realize I can do a lot with Adobe Illustrator after exploring all the different kind of features and the tools. I learned that there is no limit when it comes to making artwork with Adobe.
